Ten Steps To Kick-Start Your Life
Do you ever feel that you’re not living the life you thought you’d have? Do you wake up with little or no desire to go to work? Have you been putting off dealing with an issue that you have? If the answer is yes, then you are not alone. Many people feel stuck and would like to change, but often they are missing a blueprint to follow in order to implement the change. For this reason, I have put together a basic ten-step program to kick-start your life so that you can take it to the next level!
-
- Set higher standards: If you are truly serious about changing your life, you must set higher standards. That means really deciding what you will no longer tolerate in your life. That will mean something different for each one of us; it could be excess weight, dead-end jobs, toxic relationships, credit card debt, and so on. Commit to getting these things out of your life and start taking your life to the next level.
- Goals: I know that you’ve heard this before, but writing down your goals really gives them more power. Putting pen to paper will allow you to revisit your goals and see what you need to change and/or readjust in order to reach them.
- Leave the past in the past: There is no future in the past, so leave it there. We have all made mistakes, and we all have situations in our past that we wish we had handled better in hindsight. There’s no point in beating ourselves up for these things, so the best thing to do is forgive ourselves and move forward.
- Get rid of bad habits: If you are still smoking, eating badly, or not exercising, it is time to stop these habits. They will only weaken you and, sooner or later, could create health problems that you may not be able to resolve. You need to start treating yourself like someone that you really love—would you encourage that person to have such bad habits? I really don’t think so.
- Attitude is everything: Successful people simply see things differently. They have problems like everyone else, but they don’t complain about them. They look for solutions, solve the problem, and move on. A positive attitude does wonders for creating great opportunities in your life.
- Don’t let external influences get you off track: I really suggest that you only share your goals with people who will genuinely support you. Too many people will tell you why things can’t be done or why you shouldn’t even bother to try! Stay away from these people if you can, and do not tell them your plans; their negativity and defeatist attitude could rub off on you. Acquire new acquaintances and new friends—those that will appreciate your passion for change and positive living.
- Tune out the bad news: Unless you watch the news and make plans on how you are going to make the world a better place, what good is it doing you? Watching endless stories about war, the economy tanking, murders, and so on may only debilitate and depress you. Going on a news diet can work wonders for your mental outlook and attitude. Believe me, if you need to know about something going on in the world, it’ll find its way to you. Just ask the next waiter or barista if anything new or unusual is going on in the world!
- Stop gossiping and complaining: Wow, I’m really asking a lot of you. Both gossiping and complaining are extremely detrimental and do nothing positive. Stay away from people who gossip, and know that when you’re not around, they are gossiping about you! Leave the complainers behind too; if this is how they want to live their lives, let them do it. Remember, you have come to this planet to live your life, not the lives of others.
- Stop making excuses: Someone once said that you can’t have both results and excuses, and that is so true. People have a million excuses for why they can’t do something; they range from being too old or too young to not having the right education or background, and so on and so forth! Focus instead on results—remember, Shakespeare wrote with a feather. He didn’t have a Mac or PC, so don’t let excuses hold you back.
- Take chances: No one goes forward without taking chances. Will you sometimes make the wrong decision? Sure, you will, but the trick is to learn from this experience and move on, applying what you’ve learned. Do you really think that we would have Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc. if someone hadn’t taken a chance? Of course not.
Each day, do your best to put these ten steps into practice, and always remember to give life the most you can, even when circumstances are not ideal. The more you practice these ten steps, the more you will guarantee that they will become a part of you, thus resulting in greater and better experiences in your life.
